Fontana general serves as an industrial exurb, or commuter town to Los Angeles, especially since the closure of the Kaiser Steel mill back in the 1980s. When the steel mill was closed, California Steel Company acquired some of the assets, and still is a major employer in Fontana to this day. in addition, railroad, and trucking operations, several medium to heavy industrial facilities and several warehousing and distribution centers are located in Fontana. The convenient geographical location of Fontana, combined with its excellent transportation network attract these types of industries.
Fontana has a large labor pool for industries coming into the area. All utilities are in place and freeways crisscross the area for easy transportation by truck, air, or rail to any place in the county.
